Norman Gorbaty, Amer., (B. 1932), Three Trees, Pen and Bistre Ink Drawing, 2011, 13-13/16 x 19-7/16, sheet 16 x 21, signed and dated in ink lower right margin corner, on a full sheet of warm white laid WORTHY watermarked paper. A forceful and energetic drawing by Gorbaty, equally at home with painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. A student of Gabor Peterdi, Albers and Louis Kahn at Yale, Gorbaty forged a successful career as illustrator and graphic designer while raising a family. He had never stopped working, and at age 87 after his recent tragic studio fire, began to work again. His deep feeling for the forces of nature is evident in this decades long series of complex and elegant ink drawings. Note: A major portion of Gorbaty's masterful full sheet ink drawings were damaged or destroyed in the 2019 studio fire. I had selected 9 drawings which were removed for last year's New York Satellite Print Fair, so those 9 escaped. This is one of them.
