Dyong Slave and Moses - Pushkin Museum
This photogravure is from a series of photographs entitled 'Guardians' by Andy Freeberg depicting museum guards in Russia left over from the Soviet era. Given permission by the government to make these portraits at various museums throughout the country, the guards chose their usual or favorite spot to sit, usually near their favorite works. The artist chose the two images that would best translate from color to black and white for the photogravure process. The plates were crafted from the original digital files by Lothar Osterburg and printed and published by James Stroud at Center Street Studio. This is the second of two images.
