Landscape with an Equestrian Monument

Marco RICCI
Date
1723-29
Description

From a set of 20. TIB .010, fourth state with number; Succi (Da Carlevaris ai Tiepolo) 422, the inscription not a separate plate as described
Provenance: Naudet 1788 (?), see Lugt 1937 and 1938; old Colnaghi stock
Watermark: Three crescents
A fine impression still with traces of the guide-lines in the inscription, with small margins all round. A pen number in the lower right margin. In very good condition. 430 x 314mm.

While most of the landscapes in Ricci's series are true-to-life, two upright plates reflect the 18th Century taste for capricci, mixing elements of classical ruins in imaginative ways. Here lively figures seem to inhabit the picturesque remains. The companion plate, Classical Ruins with a Sphinz, is also available.
