pilchard Boats, Cornwall
Signed, titled and numbered. This is a fine, atmospheric impression of this uncommon print. The margins are modest but measuring 1/4 to 5/8 in. and this could well be the original, untrimmed sheet. The condition is good. (The sheet has been professionally backed with thin Japanese paper due to some thinning on the verso.) The recorded edition mentioned in the catalogue is seventy-eight even though this impression is numbered 21 from the edition of 100. Pilchard fishing was a thriving industry in Cornwall from around 1750 to 1880. Catalogue reference: Chapman 10. This is a rare print.
